Snippets of Motivation: CHIN UP, LET’S LOOK OUTSIDE OUR WINDOWS

It’s gloomy here, today. So dark that we need lights in the middle of the day. It’s raining non-stop and making me miserable. It’s affecting my mood, my will to do anything. Cherry on top is that I woke up super late due to this weather, and now feel much worse. Those of you who know me personally, know what waking past 10 am does to me – I become the most pessimistic person on this planet.

“Not today, not today at all” I say, dramatically.

Hi all,

Welcome to another blog in this series: Snippets of Motivation.

Today, let’s chin up and look outside our windows.

It’s all about perspective really. As I plugged in my earphones and stared out my window, this morning, to wallow in my pessimistic mood with some sad songs to match the vibe, I noticed a construction site. Workers working their way on the muddy roads, slipping but continuing their work. The rain sure seemed to bother them, but they seemed to have no choice. Some crossed through the muddy pool of water, balancing heavy loads upon their heads. From where I stood, all I could see was misery. I wondered, do they even notice the weather anymore, or only burdened by the fact that they who make such lavish homes for us, never make even a livable house for themselves. The irony pained me.

I gazed away from them and saw a few people on their bikes, battling the rain. Are they stuck, because it started raining midway? What’s so important, that they didn’t stop under a shed to wait out the rain? Thousands of questions reigned my mind.

I looked away, at the playground of a school in sight. Unlike other days, children weren’t out, playing and screaming on top of their lungs.

Finally, I saw a couple on their balcony, reading books, maybe having a tea or coffee. Laughing in between over some shared facts or jokes.

And then, I looked at myself.

I was sad about the weather?

It was beautiful from where I stood and watched, those muddy puddles looked fun, those rainy roads shined, and the school looked serene. From my comfy, 16th floor high, dry, beautiful house, it looked gorgeous. Being able to view miles of different sites, just from my window, it’s exactly the type of view, people go to hill stations for.

Standing there, I did remember some of my own worries. But the vastness of the land in front of me made me feel that those problems were quite small.

This isn’t to diss on anyone who thinks they are going through a lot, of course all our problems are validly huge for us, and just because someone has it worse or better, doesn’t negate our own. But this is about that perspective shift.

I urge you to look out that window, which shows you the rest of the world and the type of people living in it. All of us, even that couple on the balcony who seemed cheerful, might have our own problems. So,You can choose to come out on the balcony with a cup of tea and enjoy the moment like that couple or stay inside like the rest of us, complaining about the weather. You can choose to work through the rain like those workers and the bikers, or go silent like the school.

It’s all in the perspective. And rain is the perfect example of that, as for some it brings joy and for some it’s just chaos. It can bring flood and/or bless the land for the farmers at the same time.

What you choose to see today is up to you.

You got it right; the window is a metaphor for that opening of the box you have put yourself in. And, rain is, of course, countless problems of your life, which can be seen as both an opportunity to grow and evolve, or to wallow, give up, and surrender.

You may have all the reasons to feel down today, but find that one reason to be hopeful, cheerful, and optimistic. Make use of this time, to enjoy this moment, for you never know when it might rain again!

Thank you for reading.

Catch you in the next one…
